Summertime gives us a chance to have some very special events. One of our favorites every year is STAR WARS WEEK!
For a full week we celebrate the legend of the Jedi Knights, The Force, and the rich characters those movies brought us. It may surprise you to discover just how much Shaolin and the Jedi have in common.
The connection between the Shaolin arts and the Star Wars legends are not an accident. George Lucas, the author of the Star Wars legends, based the Jedi Knights on the real-life Shaolin Monks. He made a visit to the Temple at one point to learn about Shaolin. He based the destruction of the Jedi Temple on a real historical event; the overthrow of the Shaolin Temple by the Qing Emperor. The battle between the Jedi and Sith in Revenge of the Sith draws heavily on the accounts of the battles between the Shaolin Monks and Qing warriors. The light saber battles are reminiscent of the great sword forms held sacred by the fighting monks. And as Grandmaster DeMasco once said in a CNN interview, “Chi is The Force in a Star Wars movie.” For Lucas, the Star Wars movies are another way of bringing Shaolin to life.
Star Wars Week is about the values of honesty, self-discipline, self-control, patience, and respect for which the Jedi Knights are known. Your instructors can make Grandmaster’s Life Skills program come alive in a whole new way. This makes Star Wars week a meaningful learning experience. We know that proper Shaolin martial arts training with a professional SDSS instructor will lay the foundation for lifelong success. We also believe that kids can have a whole lot of fun at the same time.
May the force be with you.
